Indonesian Academics State Greenpeace Data is Inaccurate
A research team from the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) – Indonesia’s most respected forestry and agriculture institution – have found Greenpeace’s claims over deforestation in Indonesia to be highly inaccutate.
Professor Bambang Hiro Saharjo and Dr Yanto Santosa conducted research between April and July 2010. According to their research, the Greenpeace definition of forest overstates the extent of deforestation in Indonesia.
The definition used by Greenpeace includes shrubland and imperata grassland, and also includes lands that have been designated for agricultural development.
Dr Yanto spoke with reporters on November 1, where he said that he has attempted to meet with Greenpeace and explain his results. Greenpeace has rejected the results.
